Rimworld - It is a colony sim but is probably king of that genre and is a fantastic game if that's your cup of tea.Its more in line with the old Majesty games but I felt it was too limiting on the building side of it. Driftland: The Magic Revival - It isn't a bad game but it certainly didn't scratch my itch.The game is in alpha, free, and open source but can be a little rough around the edges. Technically more of an RTS in the vain of Age of Empires but I was happy to have good base building and plenty of battles to go with it. The AI isn't the smartest around though and if you wall your self completely off they basically just leave you alone. I found it to be a pretty good as a colony sim/base building game and was satisfying to play.

Stonehearth - The game is technically abandoned but was "finished" before they left.

You can also get this and all the other Annos with Uplay+ to try it out. It does however have very in-depth production chains and your cities will grow pretty large as you go and span multiple islands.

My only complaint with Anno is I really want RTS ground combat and all it offers are boats which feels like it takes away from any actual strategy.

Don't worry about the DLC as the base game is full bodied and you can snag those DLCs during a sale if you really want them. Anno 1800 or any of them really- As someone else mentioned, it is a pretty solid game.Uplay has a 7 days Uplay+ trial that contains all 7 games. I got this urge a few weeks ago and I'm still searching high and low for something to scratch my itch.
